American Blazer Horse
The American Blazer Horse was developed by F. Neil Hinck. He wanted a horse with the qualities of the old ranch-style horses that helped settle the American West. Qualities he felt were lacking in the horses of the time. He began his journey with a bay mare he called Lighting, a Thoroughbred-Morgan cross. Lighting had the disposition and heart he was looking for, though she was taller than most ranch horses of the time. When crossed with a Shetland Pony, she produced a black mare named Star, who had all of her mother’s heart and disposition, but stood just under 14 hands. Later, Star was crossed with a foundation Quarter horse of the Peppy line. The result was Little Blaze, born April 19, 1959. Blazers are incredibly long-lived, sound, have keen intellect, heart and willing dispositions. Blazers are solid colored horses with dark underlying skin (pinto, appaloosa, double dilutes and champagne are not permitted). Mature horses stand between 13 and 15 hands. Horses must be a direct descendant of foundation sire Little Blaze to qualify for registration.
